Rural Roads Alert |
||
Sussex PoliceGood Morning Resident, As autumn progresses, the lower sun angle and tree cover are creating dangerous shadow conditions on rural roads. Pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, and motorists may become difficult to see in shaded stretches, even during bright daylight. This is a seasonal issue that affects all rural road users — increased awareness, visibility and action can help prevent collisions and keep our communities safe. Pedestrians & Dog Walkers: • Wear high-visibility or light-coloured clothing. • Where possible, walk facing oncoming traffic. • Keep dogs on short leads close to the verge. • Be aware that you may be invisible to drivers until the last second. Cyclists: • Use front and rear lights, even during the day. • Wear reflective or high-vis clothing. Drivers: • Slow down on tree-lined and shaded rural roads. • Use headlights or sidelights to improve your visibility to others. • Be prepared for pedestrians, dog walkers and cyclists to appear suddenly from shaded areas. Let’s keep Sussex’s rural roads safe for everyone this autumn. Sussex Police Rural Crime Team
